Thursday Service Project at the Eno River (if we are still out)
The good folks at Eno River State Park would like us to help make several improvements at the Highway 70 canoe launch. It is located on a small patch of Eno River State Park Land, away from the main park property (see directions below).
They tell me it is a project that has been a long time coming.
If we are still furloughed, the plan is to meet at 10 am Thursday and work for a few hours. Please RSVP in the comments section. We’ll need about 10 people to make this a go.
We will pull kudzu from trees and shrubs and reestablish the canoe access trail near the parking area. Bring leather work gloves, sunscreen & bug spray. Wear pants – long sleeves might be a good idea, too. There are no bathrooms there, but gas stations and grocery stores are within a mile. I will bring the water and granola bars, but you might want to bring a lunch, too. The state park folks will supply tools for the jobs and some extra gloves.
DIRECTIONS- The property itself has no street address – it is a 1.5 acre open grassy field at the corner of Riverside Drive and US 70 East in Hillsborough (St. Mary’s Road is a nearby cross street). 1751 Riverside Drive is the house right next door to the property – a GPS use of this address gets you very close, just don’t turn onto Riverside when it tells you to! There is a sign that reads ‘Eno River State Park- No Overnight Parking’ and there will be a ranger in a truck waiting to meet us.
