Volunteer on Wed. Oct 2nd 10-1 at Herndon Park, Durham

If a budget is not signed and the government is shut down on Wednesday, October 2nd,  EPA staff, retirees, and families are invited to volunteer for the NC Big Sweep trail clean up program.  We will meet starting at 10AM at Herndon Park in Durham (near Southpoint Mall, see directions below).  Please join us!  Garbage bags will be provided but PLEASE BRING GLOVES.

Here are some details for volunteers

All Volunteers – Please be safe and following these simple safety tips:
· wear garden, work or rubber gloves
· wear light-colored clothing that covers arms and legs
· wear closed-toed shoes or boots, that can get wet and muddy
· bring a hat or visor for sun protection
· stay well clear of any construction
· stop work in inclement weather
· during warm weather months drink plenty of fluids – take breaks, avoid overexertion
· during cold weather months, dress warmly with layered clothing
· be alert for snakes, stinging insects and avoid contact with noxious weeds or areas where herbicides were applied
We will register our group and take care of contacting the Big Sweep once we have a better sense of what Wed will hold.
